Hearts for Haiti

Valley Lutheran Church supports mission trips to Haiti on an ongoing basis and has in past years in an effort to spread the Gospel outside our borders. Several members of Valley Lutheran including Pastors Dan Esala and Bob Hoffman have participated and joined the  efforts with others throughout Northeast Ohio through Hearts for Haiti, a network of churches that coordinates mission efforts.

Over the past two years Valley members have traveled to Haiti to conduct an eyeglass clinic, a dental clinic, and provide education on women’s health issues.  Last November several men from Valley Lutheran traveled to Ile a Vache to build a school for the children. Other members have joined efforts by sponsoring Haitian children for school through The Carribean Children's Foundation. With no system of public education, the opportunity to go to school provides a life changing opportunity for a Haitian child.
 

As a result of these efforts we’ve gained some valuable insight as to how others live. We’ve gained through the relationships we’ve shared with mission team members from other churches, but most of all in coming to know and love the Haitian people.

The next mission trip is scheduled for Nov. 18 through Nov. 28^th to conduct an “Eye Glass Clinic”. Glasses will be tested, sorted and marked by an optometrist with the prescription strength. The mission team members will test the patients and then appropriate eye glasses will be fitted for them.

YOU can be a part of this mission team effort in three ways:

1. Pray! Pray for the safety of the team, the people they will come in contact with, that the gospel of Jesus Christ will fall upon open hearts.

2. If you or anyone you know have old glasses or eye glass cases they would like to donate, we have a collection bin in the narthex. Especially needed are reading glasses.
